Luke Hess: Field Recording 020

It's hard to believe this website has been around for four years already. What was meant to simply connect myself and others to each other through sound has turned into so much more. 2011 is going to be a fun year for all of the projects that this space is involving itself.

Luke Hess has been a man on my radar since Absolute Truth was released. Using years of Detroit influence in his own music, Luke has created a signature sound that draws from deep moods and vibrating rhythms. This mix was crafted and recorded live in Osaka and released on the Field Recordings Podcast series.

RBMA Trainwreck Mix: Shackleton

Red Bull Music Academy is back with their Trainwreck Mix Series, and this time they bring the spotlight to one of Skull Disco's founders: Shackleton. A 2004 release on the radically obscure Mordant Music saw Sam quickly finding a home in sound. With a deep and mysterious direction in both his production and mixes, Shackleton gained momentum with underground garage scenes around 2005 with his first SD release. Working with artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Shackleton always remained at the forefront of the broken beat scene by bridging the gap in both sounds and partnerships. Unfortunately, Skull Disco disbanded as a label in 2008, but the spirit and allure that defined a Shackleton track continued to be a driving force in the music. Like Ricardo and Omar S, Shackleton recently brought his own productions to the Fabric collection. This Trainwreck Mix plays into the same type of theme, where he turns the psychedelic and strange, standalone tracks into a cleverly laid out session.

Shackleton & Vengeance Tenfold - Stripped III (Version) - Unreleased
Shackleton - Man On A String Part 1 & 2 - Unreleased
Shackleton - Angel On A String - Unreleased
Shackleton - Fireworks - Unreleased
Shackleton - Deadman - Unreleased
Shackleton - Bottles - Unreleased
Shackleton - Hypno Angel - Skull Disco
Shackleton - Something Has Got To Give - Perlon

LWE Podcast 71: Spinoza & Eric Cloutier

Little White Earbuds brings us this wonderful podcast and interview from two of the country's most influential party people, Eric Cloutier and Bryan Kasenic (aka Spinoza). Words below by LWE

If you’ve read anything about America’s dance music scene in the last five years, The Bunker, New York’s vaunted club night, has probably received repeated mentions. Founded in 2003 as “an ongoing night of musical exploration,” the events grew into the most reliable parties in the state, if not the country. The Bunker’s focus on quality sounds (both in their bookings and in the massive PAs they use) instead of flashy gimmicks (don’t expect bottle service) has earned the respect of the world-renowned artists who insist on playing their parties and the audiences for whom the events are like church services. Organized by Bryan Kasenic, the proprietor of Beyond Booking who is known as Spinoza when behind the decks, the nights also feature residents Derek Plaslaiko and Eric Cloutier. Cloutier has been making waves outside of The Bunker as well, having helmed two mixes for mnmlssgs and played Japan’s well loved Labyrinth Festival. In anticipation of their performance at Oktave’s Smart Bar party on January 15th, where they’ll provide support for Bunker favorite Donato Dozzy, Spinoza and Cloutier put together LWE’s 71st exclusive podcast as a mouth watering appetizer.
