It's no doubt that we absolutely love what the label collective Unoiki is putting out, and the way they are doing it. If you haven't been paying attention, each month Unoiki puts up one new track by a new artist for a period of about 10 days. Downloads are free, and include lossy and lossless versions of the tune, as well as artwork and info. After the allotted time has expired, the track is archived and will not be released again until the full calendar album is released. Hardcopy sales of the album are available now on Unoiki's website.

Havantepe is back with his light, sonic sounds that place him firmly as a top producer in dub house music. On Pong Musiq Spain, the Caterpillar EP brings two originals from the Turkish producer and one remix from Detroit traditionalist Luke Hess. The opening track is a twisting dance number that lives through its echoing synths and deep bass grooves. Butterfly extends on A1's mood, yet provides a more laid-back approach to the dub sound, with crashing hats and charging kicks. Luke Hess enters the picture with his remix of Caterpillar, a slowed-down Motown enhancement, making the original have that slight more mysterious sound to it.

Resident Advisor 204: Starkey

Philly's purveyor of "street bass" mixes it up on this week's RA podcast.

When you think of grime and dubstep, Pennsylvania isn't one of the the first places that springs to mind, but Paul Geissinger AKA Starkey has been doing his utmost to create his own take on the sound in his home city of Philadelphia. Having been turned on to UK garage while he was studying in London at the start of the millennium, he continued to keep abreast of developments in the scene once he got back to the US. Alongside his Seclusiasis partner Dev79, he helped to promote the first party in the US to feature grime music before launching into the production sphere with singles on Werk, Lo Dubs and Dead Homies.

It wasn't long before Planet Mu got wind of his energetic and colourful mix of instrumental hip-hop and dubstep, and 2008 saw him gain plenty of exposure with the release of his Ephemeral Exhibits album on the label as well as an appearance on Mary Anne Hobbs' much discussed Generation Bass showcase. This month sees follow-up Ear Drums & Black Holes hit the shops, with RA's Oli Marlow citing it to be "equally as able to appease personal musing or excite your limbs with spectacular effect." As such, we thought that we'd get him in to demonstrate what his self-coined "street bass" sound is all about.

Dave Huismans brings the techno and dubstep fusion on this week's RA podcast.

Of the artists to emerge from the dialogue between techno and dubstep, The Hague's Dave Huismans must be rated as one of the finest. His production roots are actually in broken beat and his Dogdaze moniker, but 2007 saw him launch the 2562 project on Pinch's Tectonic Recordings, forging techno sounds to dubstep beat structures to great effect. While debut album Aerial was fairly singular and streamlined in its approach to the fusion of techno and dubstep, his sophomore effort showed a totally different side to Huismans' sound. With more overt references to UK garage and house, Unbalance managed to scrape into the top ten of last year's RA albums poll, with Oli Marlow calling it "a zenith for techno-tinged dubstep in 2009."

He's also been keeping busy with his A Made Up Sound moniker which operates in a slightly more conventional house and techno vein. Last year's "Rework" on his own A Made Up Sound imprint and the four-track EP on Clone were essential releases if you like your 4/4 beats to be swung and bass-heavy, and those two adjectives are definitely something that you say about his effort for this week's RA podcast.

We are proud to bring you this stimulating slow-rhythmic release from Fill. As the netlabel family continues to grow, new ideas for label direction have since spawned. Stay tuned, because the rest of spring/summer of this year will feature some interesting topics of art.

Russian producer Fill, moniker of Daniil Vavilov, show us this warm, and inviting pathway to his sonic creativity. Led by a symphony of broken drums, as heard in "Alone within Four Walls", moods are sculpted from unique atmospheres. "Drunk at Nightfall" shows up on the release at its midway point continuing the inviting theme while imparting a more serious tone. The nine-track release finishes up with the aptly named "Tribute", which offers a glimpse at the producer's take on a track with a more house-oriented feel.

Ghostly/Spectral's website states that the 89th release from Spectral comes to us from someone wishing to remain anonymous at this point. A mail-in demo with no name or return address makes its way into the Detroit-bred sublabel's catalog, and that's all we can go on at this point. Slow, hypnotic house music from both of the release's songs are enough to satisfy us for now, but hopefully there is more to come from the mystery person...

Resident Advisor 202: Thomas Fehlman

The elder statesman of electronic music steps into the RA hotseat for this week's podcast.

Gazing back over the last 25 years of electronic music, there are few that can match the résumé of Thomas Fehlmann. The Swiss musician's career kicked off in Hamburg in 1979, where he co-founded Palais Schaumberg, an '80s new wave outfit that counted a certain Moritz von Oswald amongst its ranks through its later incarnations. After the band split, Fehlmann quickly found his feet as a solo producer, committing himself to long hours in his Berlin studio and issuing a series of experimental and ambient tracks as Ready Made. The tail end of that decade also saw Fehlmann launch his own Detroit-inspired Teutonic Beats imprint, which featured early productions from Jörg Burger, Wolfgang Voigt and Westbam.

Fehlmann furthered his Detroit connection when he and Moritz von Oswald hooked up with both Juan Atkins and Eddie Fowlkes for the 3MB project. Collaboration has been a constant theme: Fehlmann has worked with Robert Fripp, Dr Alex Paterson, Tom Thiel, Max Loderbauer and Daniel Meteo in the studio at various points. The 21st century has seen his relationship with Wolfgang Voigt and the Kompakt team flourish, with Fehlmann becoming somewhat of a mainstay on the label. His latest full-length effort—Gute Luft—is his fourth on Kompakt, and shows that the producer is as vibrant as ever, merging together rich dub techno, ambient and melodious house with aplomb. Therefore, it's only right that we hand over this week's RA podcast to the man, and he's fixed us up with a quality hour of deep and dubby house music.
