Plastikman - Time Warp 2010

There's no doubt that Richie Hawtin's return as Plastikman has been quite a buzzworthy topic over the last several months. Instant criticism from longtime fans and music enthusiasts emerged, and rightfully so, considering Richie's most recent set behavior over the last several years. A man who once led the mindfuck techno brigade of the early 90s was now turning towards more conventional and popular sounds. The Mutek set was a disappointment for many, letting their frustrations be known. Would Richie Hawtin ever return to his glory as Plastikman, or would this just be something that only history can claim as legendary?

The audio download of this set is an audience recording. The quality is poor at best, and is meant to only serve as a way to listen to what sort of sounds were being played. The videos serve the same purpose.

[Littlebus 009] Sobamonk - Minimize EP

[Littlebus 009]
SOBAMONK
MINIMIZE E.P.

The end of the year is close and it is always great to receive the new year with a new toy, this is why Littlebus becomes Santa and brings you another collection ep. This time music comes from the mind of a English-Cypriot nomad that sustains his tracks with great techno bases. Moments in the sky and in the underground flow without any control, and inspires to teletransport and transform the mind into a traveller. Sobamonk ́s justifies his power and his quality with 3 great original tracks which are complemented by 2 luxury remixes, the 1st one by Rico Puestel, with the deep and virtuous sound that we are used to and the 2nd one by Santiago Matzerath who`s remix provides the freshness and brilliant touch that this ep needs. And, as usual, the Artwork which is born from the mischievous pencil of Miss/is Ahemeeh.

Resident Advisor 200: Carl Craig

The Detroit techno legend takes to the decks for RA's 200th podcast.

Dance music is prone to hyperbole, but you'd be hard-pressed to come up with anything but words like "legend," "titan" and "giant" when describing Carl Craig's impact on the electronic scene. Producer, remixer, label boss, DJ, the list goes on and on.

His bio on RA at the time of this writing ends at 2001, and it's more than 2,000 words. Since then, he's been nominated for a Grammy, performed his music with a symphony orchestra and traveled the world evangelizing for forward-thinking house and techno from Detroit and beyond. (And that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.) His relentless passion for electronic music of all stripes is unquestioned, but for RA's 200th podcast the Detroit jock goes straight to the floor and stays there for more than an hour. This is Carl Craig at his clubbiest, long may his legend continue to reign.

[blpsq002] Humeka - Moolid the Lober [video]

Wonderful video work by Jonathan Mangelinck, complimenting the remix release of Humeka's Moolid the Lobster for Bleepsequence. You can download the mp3s free here.

Erdbeerschnitzl - I Need a Monome!!

After the free release of my LP last year worked quite good I tried to figure out how to keep on being part of the netlabel scene without doing "classic" releases. Here now is the start of my project:

http://www.blockstoff.de/ineedamonome/

It might seem a bit akward at the beginning because it's kind of focused on the monome, but I think that you see that this is just a way to give out free creative commons licenced bits and pieces with a certain freedom. It's not "Erdbeerschnitzel"-releases, it's just... stuff.

So this is the start, the first two buttons are released, you get a sample pack and one track. Just check it out and please tell me how you like the idea, good or bad. I will use this thread to post updates on the site, but u can also follow the twitter account on that page.

And yes, I really want one of these things

-Tim Keiling

Button 1: Samplepack - Stab Oneshots

Some material for your sequencer on the first button: Here you get 24 single stabs that I produced, a mixture of sampling, synthesis and FX. Listen to a compiled version on the player and download the single .wav files below.

Download .wav files

Button 2: Track "BWL"

Button number 2 features a track which I produced back in march 2008. "BWL" is german for "Betriebswirtschaftslehre", which means something like economy studies. The lyrics were inspired by a walk through a clothing market in Hong Kong. Quite klicky weird Minimalstuff here. Every track featured on this page will have the artist-mp3-tag "I need a monome" - so if you want to use the tracks in a mix for example, that is the artistname you go for.

This is what the EP sounds like: Horse Play Pt3

There was an uneasy energy as the crowd slowly adjusted to what had just happened to them. Before the group could take in their surroundings in any great detail the ground wobbled a litttle and the crowd let out a small yelp. The ground began to lurch underneath them. Some of them fell, the rest of them struggling to stay on their feet. Everyone was very unsettled. “Where are we” said on of them? “In the future” said the Rhonda Fish. “In The future, as seen through the eyes of the ‘half elephant, half man’ man.”
The ‘room’ they were in (which many believed was a cloud up in the sky seeing as thats where it had appeared they had gone to) was large and, unfortunatly it was cliched. The walls were see through, or covered in a huge image projection. It was quite hard to tell which. Whatever it was, it showed the most wonderful images of lands slowly passing by. Strange mountains with snow on the bottom and palm tree’s on the top, and sea that was dry and land that was wet. This was the realm of the future, where everything seemed to have been reversed and also, so it would seem, someone had successfully mated with an elephant, because the next thing they saw gave them all quite a shock.
Lumbering out of a clearing from some trees (with branches and leaves at the bottom and then a huge trunk protruding upwards like a thick flag pole) came a beast with the body of an elephant and the head of a man. The crowd muttered sympathetic mutterings to each other, it must be terrible being half man half elephant they thought. As it turns out, it wasnt quite as bad as it could have been, for the next beast out of the woods had the body of a man but the head of an elephant. Definatly the worse way round of the too, as things weren’t in scale but in actual size. The huge head wobbled from side to side on the body of the small man, and each way it wobbled, the body would follow in a desperate attmpt to maintain some sort of balance.
Coming over towards them, in a defiantly ‘not straight’ line, the second beast opened its mouth and trumpeted at them. The sound was so loud they thought God was talking to them. That wasnt as loud as the next noise, for the response seemed to come from all about them, shaking the very core of everything around them. It seemed like they were right in the middle of the sound, like they were small spectators slammed right into the head of someone. And slowly, what the Rhonda Fish had said a short while earlier began to dawn on them, as they realised they were right in the conciousness of the elephant man from the future. And the ground had been moving because, like Jesus in Nazareth, the elephant man had, it appeared, been riding into town on a donkey..

Stay tuned for the next instalment with the next EP out April 9th 2010 by Le jockey and Arthur Barr

[3.24] Zoo Atlanta pres: Shaun Reeves at El Bar

A Detroit native whose move to Berlin was ahead of its time, for the last four years Shaun Reeves has been enthralling European audiences with his own highly distinctive mixture of American house, both classic and contemporary, and the deepest, most cutting edge aspects of minimal techno and tech-house. In addition to playing in Berlin’s celebrated Panorama Bar, Watergate, Arena Club, and the legendary Beatstreet loft parties, he has appeared in Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), T-Bar (London), Wolf + Lamb (NYC), Bunker (NYC), End Up (San Francisco), Cocoliche (Buenos Aires), La Sala (Bogota), Harry Klein (Munich), and many other clubs and parties in Europe, North and South America.

While searching deep in the back catalogue of house and techno for forgotten tracks that sound decidedly fresh and exciting, Shaun remains committed to pushing all genres of dance music forward. His is music not just for the dance floor, but also for the body, soul…and brain. As the recent resurgence of interest in the border between house and techno makes all too clear, Shaun has always been one to set musical trends rather than follow them.

Best known for his collaborative work as Uli Kunkel and with Miss Fitz, Shaun has recently been working with fellow Detroit-native Seth Troxler, a collaboration that will appear on Raum, as well as with Argentina’s Dilo. Recently he has begun to produce on his own, crafting elegant house music that has learned from the best aspects of minimal, but bringing back an element of emotional depth often lacking from that genre. And as friends and family know, Shaun’s re-edits are highly sought after by Djs and music lovers, often stripping the music to its barest elements but in the process bringing out a depth and complexity lacking in the original.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Enjoy this mix from Shaun

Trace Hazen - Paradigm Shift (mix)

Atlanta resident Trace Hazen is back with another great tech/house mix. A great balance of tracks chosen, so do enjoy!

Tracklist:
1. No Regular Play - Blonde Juan (Cover of Ada - Cool My Fire) [Wolf + Lamb]
2. Marcel Wave - Kiwi Sunrise [Airdrop Records]
3. Adam Freeland - Bring It (Marc Romboy Remix) [Marine Parade]
4. Birds & Souls - Birds & Souls [Spectral Sound]
5. Lee Curtis - Sister [Get Physical Music]
6. Prompt - Addiction [Highgrade Records]
7. Tam Cooper, Will Saul - In & Out [Simple Records]
8. Danny Howells - Laid Out (Tom Budden's Alive Remix) [Dig Deeper]
9. Josh Wink - Dolphin Smack (Martin Buttrich Remix) [Ovum]
10. Rekzar - Above The Clouds (Mystery Boy Edit & John Daly Beats) [Running Back]
11. Michael Cassette - Kilimanjaro [Anjunadeep]
12. Omid 16b - Same As You (Club Dub) [SexOnWaxRecords]
13. Mano Le Tough - Eurodancer (Tensnake Remix) [Mirau Musik]

So this mix is obviously a complete departure from anything I've done recently. Since its starting to thaw out a bit and WMC is almost here, I figured I would do a mix to reflect that sort of vibe. There's lots of funky, melodic, and summery tracks in here...some of them are pretty old, but this was largely done for fun and to spread my wings a bit. Hope you guys enjoy.
