Jones' Moon Lands Well With Science-Fiction Fans

While Duncan Jones' first full-length film seems to mimic 2001's iconic HAL 9000 with Kevin Spacey's artificial intelligence character Gerty, this chilling science-fiction centers on Astronaut Sam Bells (Sam Rockwell). These are the final weeks of his three-year moon mission to help restore Earth's dwindling energy resources. While everything is becoming routine to the Bell, the communication with his family is not enough to curb his loneliness. But Sam quickly learns that all is not what it seems, and things start to take a turn for the worse before he realizes what is happening.

As we get comfortable with Bell's character mission, we learn that he has a loving wife and daughter waiting eagerly on his home arrival. He's able to communicate with them through a live connection, but the live feed reports late coincidentally throughout the time frame of this movie. Sam's mind begins to wander from his main objectives, a reasonable trait for someone who's been stuck in a metal can for nearly three years. As such, he crashes his lunar rover while out on a mission and danger quickly escalates from this point forward. The accident renders Bell useless and leaves him unconscious for a significant amount of time. When he awakens, Gerty is the first voice that he hears. At this point in the storyline, the assistant computer system shows signs of deceit, a characteristic that clearly shows its human capabilities.

Match Jones' poignant writing style with the brilliant visual setting of the lunar ship and you get quite an emotional experience. It's no surprise, as Duncan is the son of musician David Bowie, so the creativity seems biological. While Moon may not encompass the horror that films like 1997's Event Horizon boast, the movie does leave the viewer with an intimidating presentation of a possible future scenario.

[Miga34] Ragul "La familia nuclear"

Ragul has a very particular family, its members are funny and stranger beings living in perfect harmony. Some are beautiful, others are deformed but all of them have an infantile and kind spirit that makes them different.

His proposal [Miga34] "La familia nuclear" is a pleasurable trip by the molecular structure of music, where we find lovely melodies and complex rhythmical structures, full of details and shades.

[Miga34] Ragul "La familia nuclear"

Ragul’s life starts and ends in his teens, marked by a squalid experiment, a surgical intervention which turned him into the first robotman in history. This operation reponded to great Doctor Gives’s thrist for vengeance. He used to be one of the most talented men at advanced medicine just as senator Franklind’s right hand, who was "Segunda Corporación" founder. This organization was created to sabotage the future new worldwide order, where transnational companies rules the solar system with iron fist.

Ragul and his friends were selected, to join as a soldier, by Segunda Corporacion; but after its dissolution because of internal problems, he runned away anywhere he could remain anonymous enough to be safe, since it is hard times for sectarian and transnationals’s enemies. Reliable sources are saying he is living in a remote bunker in Barcelona. This bunker houses his clandestine laboratory, which has lots of old machines. In this place he does experiments in musical field and video production. Far from giving up, Ragul will undertake future adventures to defeat established order, like a crazy spartan.

Ezekiel Honig - Live PA @ Mutek 09

anticipate recordings
mutek
percussion lab

A New York City native, and founder/label manager for the Anticipate and Microcosm labels, Ezekiel Honig concentrates on his idiosyncratic brand of emotively warm electronic-acoustic music. Using the loop as more of a tool than a rule, Honig paints outside the lines, nestling into a comfortable, shared space between muted techno, melodic, event-driven ambient and slowmotion house - using them as reference points from which to stray, rather than as steadfast frameworks. Drawing on the rich history of musique concrete, Honig looks to incorporate a material nature into his music by imbuing it with a host of field recording/found-sound sources in the search for a balance between digital software innovation and the physicality of the world around us. His music is one of contrast and contradiction, combining minimal, abstract tendencies with a core of timeless harmonics - pairing inviting, fuzzy chords with clunky and dirty "mishaps."

Through a number of critically acclaimed releases, Honig's work has been featured in publications such as The Wire (UK), XLR8R (USA), The Village Voice (USA), De:Bug (Germany), Textura (Canada), Resident Advisor (USA), Flavorpill/Earplug (USA), Spex (Germany), TRAX (France) and many others worldwide, being variously described as, "stately," "evocative and impressionistic," "strangely solemn narratives," "ornate," "takes aim for the heart as much as the head," and "an anthill symphony." Taken as a whole these various descriptors give a fuller picture of a sound which has remained consistent while developing along a continuum. Honig's personal musical movement has also directed the development of his Anticipate and Microcosm labels. Spending as much time on curatorial activities and label management as he does on his own music production has afforded him a unique viewpoint from which to work and informs his activities throughout the musical process, as well as offering him the chance to collaborate with other artists on multiple levels.

In addition to his studio releases and label work, Honig performs live consistently, and, in this setting, strives to push beyond the boundaries of the recorded material. His improvisational approach combines loops and elements from various songs with on-the-fly arrangements, editing and effects. Viewing the recorded material as a constantly shifting body of work leaves space for serendipitous moments and leads to each set being an individualized rework, referencing and reprocessing itself as well as the song forms from which the parts emerged. As a result of this flexibility to tailor sets to the environment, Honig's performances have been known to take the form of deep after-hours techno, rhythmic near-ambient or heartbeat-driven installation.
