Commix...DnB meets Techno

One of our favorite producer teams for a while now has been Commix, the UK drum and bass madmen. From hard hitting dancefloor smashers to liquid grooves, it's no mystery that Commix has been at the forefront of DnB for sometime now, with releases on Metalheadz for starters. There comes a time in every artist's life, especially in the dance world, in which one genre is not enough. For Commix, they have both rediscovered the wonderful bliss of techno/house. DTPodcast035: Commix

"I think when you’ve been involved in one scene so deeply for a long time, it’s difficult to listen to it with fresh ears" explained George from Commix in our recent interview with the D&B duo. "I think what we found in a lot of the more recent techno stuff that we’ve found ourselves falling in love with is a completely fresh look on dance music as a whole – which I think has had a really positive effect on our drum & bass as well"

As they explained in the interview, there's no chance of them giving up on D&B (as witnessed in their superb new FABRICLIVE CD) - but the current sounds of underground house and techno have invigorated them with a new outlook on production in general. Guy explained further: "One of the things about techno for me is the freedom of expression. As time’s gone by with drum & bass, when we sit down in the studio to write a drum & bass tune, there’s a lot of stigma attached to it, there’s a lot expected of us etcetera. When you listen to techno and you follow some producers, they’ve basically got so much freedom to do what they want with it, and it’s totally accept"

So what we have here is their first EVER house & techno set - recorded live at Medium at Plastic People back in November. It's a thoroughly enjoyable mix, perfectly mixed, with plenty of groove and melody throughout. We hope you enjoy this exclusive mix!

[Medium's 2nd Birthday is on Wednesday 18th February at Plastic People, with Loxy, Scuba, Icicle (techno set) and Sia. Not to be missed. Check www.myspace.com/mediumbeats for more details]
